Family Name: Lamiaceae

Actions:
Nervine

Carminative

Lavender, a species in the mint family, is native to the Meditteranean. It is grown abundantly in the region of Provence, France. It is a low-growing shrub with multiple stems topped by spikes of highly aromatic, violet flowers. When applied topically, lavender oil has analgesic properties and is a good herb to keep in your personal first aid kit.

Lavender is useful for anxiety and fatigue.  It can help bring on sleep, relieve gas, calm digestive tension, and ease menstrual cramps. Lavender essential oil is lovely to add to your diffuser before bed to relax the body and mind. Simply inhaling the scent can be calm and soothing on the nerves. It is well-known as a mood-lifting herb that can help with depression. Lavender has been used for centuries in baths, food, and in dried aromatic bundles. Toss sachets of lavender flowers into your dryer to scent your laundry.
