Arnica flowers come from the mountains of Europe and Central Asia and is now widely cultivated in North America. They are vibrant yellow-orange and look like the bright shining sun. The flower heads can be infused into body oils, liniments, creams, gels, and sprays. These topicals can be applied externally, never internally, for bruises, muscle aches, minor skin inflammations, sprains, strains, arthritis and joint pain. Arnica stimulates white blood cell activity, thereby improving circulation to combat swelling and inflammation. Arnica blossoms were thought to be especially potent on the summer solstice. Bunches were gathered and set on the corners of fields to ensure a bountiful harvest.
