Dandelion Leaf
Botanical Name: Taraxacum officinale
Family Name: Asteraceae
Actions:
Adaptogen
Diuretic
Nutritive
The word dandelion comes from the French "dent de lion" meaning "lion's tooth" because of its long, serrated, coarse-toothed leaves. Dandelions grow wild all over the world with varieties native to Asia, Europe and North America. The flowers are bright yellow and an indicator that springtime has arrived. While Dandelion is considered a noxious weed by some, the root, stem, leaves, and flowers work diligently to heal and nourish on multiple levels and across many organ systems. Dandelion root tincture or an overnight tea infusion help detoxify the liver and supply the body with the trace vitamins and minerals it needs. Its diuretic properties increase the efficacy of the body's elimination channels. It is a common, nostalgic childhood memory to pick the dandelion puffs and make a wish as you blow the seeds to the wind.
