Ginger, a perennial plant with annual leafy stems, grass-like, bright green leaves, and yellowish green flowers, is native to Asia, where it has been used as a spice for thousands of years. Its tuberous, underground stems, also known as rhizomes, are widely cultivated and commonly used in cooking and herbal medicine.
Ginger can be used to prevent or treat nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness, pregnancy, post-surgery, and cancer chemotherapy. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, ginger is suggested to remedy infections of the digestive tract and the effects of food poisoning. Making ginger tea can be used to help treat colds, flu, headaches, and painful menstruation.
Traditional Chinese medicine believes that ginger will treat the whole human body. It can easily be made into syrups, infused as ginger tea, blended into herbal formulas, and tinctured. Ginger is not only wonderful in magick, but it is also a stunning plant. Keep a small pot of ginger on a window sill and enjoy its beauty while also calling in abundance and luck to you and your home.
